National MPI

Launch date of national MPI: 2017
Multidimensionally Poor (based on National MPI): 35.6% (2017)
Institution responsible for national MPI: Sistema Único de Beneficiarios (Siuben)
Dimensions of national MPI: Health, Education and Child Care, Employment and Livelihood, Housing and local environment, Digital Gap and Social Relationships.

The Government of the Dominican Republic launched its MPI on the 27th of June 2017 in an official ceremony led by the Vice President of the country, Margarita Cedeño Fernández and attended by a number of Government Ministers and Sabina Alkire, Director of OPHI. The Dominican Republic MPI has 5 dimensions and  24 indicators. Among them are the digital divide, discrimination and participation—all highly innovative. The data comes from a new instrument, the MPI Questionnaire, designed specifically to capture the different dimensions that had been identified through a participatory process.

MPI-DR helps to identify the multiple dimensions of poverty that affect people’s lives at the same time. The measure provides information that can be used for more effective and efficient social policy and a better allocation and governance of poverty resources.
