Why a network of policy makers?

The Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network was created in response to the overwhelming demand from policymakers for information on multidimensional poverty measures.

The Network was co-founded in 2013 by CONEVAL (Mexico’s National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy), Colombia’s Department for Social Prosperity (DPS), and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI).

It was formally launched in Oxford on 6-7 June 2013, by President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia, Professor Amartya Sen and high-level representatives from Mexico and sixteen other governments.  It has held annual meetings in Berlin 2014Cartagena 2015, Acapulco 2016Beijing 2017, Johannesburg 2018, Mahé 2019 and Santiago of Chile 2021.
