In 2015, Malaysia launched a national MPI as part of their annual development plan. You can find more information on indicators and cut-offs here. Absolute poverty is no longer a pressing issue for Malaysia. Extreme poverty has been eradicated and the incidence of general poverty stands at a minimum level. Despite tremendous progress made in poverty eradication, Malaysia continues to have pockets of poverty. In this regard, the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) will complement the effort to monitor poverty and identify development gaps for the formulation of a more inclusive development policy and intervention.
