The Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN) will host a high-level side on the margins of the UN General Assembly 2025 to showcase advancements in addressing multidimensional poverty and to highlight the global commitment to turning a corner on poverty. This event will bring together senior officials from governments and international organisations to discuss why poverty alleviation is pivotal for sustainable development, and how robust and comprehensive measurement tools, such as the Multidimensional Poverty Indices (MPIs), are essential to guide policies and programmes that aim to get back on track to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This event, titled “Measuring What Matters: How Multidimensional Poverty Indices Drive Evidence-Based Action for a Sustainable Future”, brought together high-level representatives from international agencies, governments, and OPHI’s MPI Ambassadors and Champions to discuss how Multidimensional Poverty Indices (MPIs) can accelerate the achievement of the SDGs and shape the agenda beyond 2030.

Adriana Conconi has been appointed the new Director of the Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN), a global coalition of over 60 governments and 20 international organizations dedicated to advancing multidimensional poverty measurement. OPHI serves as the secretariat to the MPPN – a pioneering south-to-south network that exchanges best practice on developing and using national Multidimensional Poverty Indices (MPIs) to guide efficient poverty reduction policies.
The Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN) hosted a well-attended webinar on the transformative power of official multidimensional poverty statistics for social development on 30 April. Directors of government statistics departments and multilateral organisations across the world shared updates of their MPI journeys as well as their plans for the future. The aim of the event was to foster peer-to-peer dialogue and knowledge exchange among actors using MPIs to make progress towards sustainable development.
